LUDEK DRIZHAL

Czech-American, Los Angeles-based composer Ludek Drizhal writes richly orchestral, melody-driven film scores rooted in the tradition of symphonic storytelling. His most recent score, for Francesco Lucente’s fantasy epic Starbright, earned a nomination for the 2026 World Soundtrack Public Choice Award and was praised by critic Jonathan Broxton as a return to “a bygone era of film music where melody, orchestration, and storytelling went hand in hand.”

Starbright continues Drizhal’s longtime collaboration with Lucente, which began with Badland. Drizhal’s score for the film and original song ‘Nothing’s There’ were both short-listed for the 80th Academy Awards. Other notable credits include Tim McCanlies' Alabama Moon, starring John Goodman, and Jacek Bromski’s God’s Little Village, whose soundtrack became the No. 1-selling album in Poland. His honors include Best Original Score at the Independent Shorts Awards International Film Festival for Thirteen and Best Impact of Music in a Feature Film at the Park City Film Music Festival for Rounding First.

A classically trained violinist and graduate of USC’s Thornton School of Music, Drizhal has conducted and recorded with leading European orchestras, including the Hungarian Radio Symphony, Czech National Symphony Orchestra and Prague Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Beyond film, he is a singer-songwriter, arranger, and orchestrator whose collaborations include internationally acclaimed alternative rock band Bi-2 and singer-songwriter Spencer Gibb, for whose solo album Let’s Start Over Drizhal provided arrangements and orchestration.
